BIOGRAPHY
Junghee Won is the owner and founder of PILATES PRINCIPLES® LLC. She has an extensive background as a professional dancer – Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Korean Traditional Dance. She performed in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Korea.Her Pilates journey commenced in 1993 when she was pursuing a Master degree in Dance and Dance Education at New York University (NYU). In her first semester at NYU she met Wei Tai Hom, who introduced her to the Pilates method. Junghee completed her M.A. in Dance/Dance Education at New York University NYC in 1995. After graduation, Junghee was trained and certified by Romana at Drago’s in NYC. While her apprenticeship, she was working aside of Romana, Bob Liekins at Drago’s, The NY Pilates Studio®and David Barton Gym/Upper East Side.
In 2001, Junghee was asked to be a lead demonstrator for Dr. Peter Fiasca's Classical Pilates Technique DVD series- MAT and Reformer. She also wrote an essay - “Pilates Technique and Body Awareness”in a Dr. Fiasca’s book “VOICE of Classical Pilates”published in 2013.
Junghee returned to Seoul in 2002 for her Ph. D. study at Kyung Hee University and co-founded Korea's first Pilates studios, Pilates Korea and Classic Pilates, which was an affiliate of Power Pilates Teacher Training Program and she officially earned the title as a Teacher Trainer to run the Power Pilates program in Seoul.
In addition to her Pilates career, Junghee also pursued her academic career culminating in the award of Ph. D. in Performing Arts at Kyung-Hee University Seoul Korea in 2005. All research was published as Junghee Kallander.
In 2006, she returned to New York City and continued to work as a teacher trainer for Power Pilates Chelsea and their Equinox Fitness studio at Columbus Circle. After years, Junghee has taught Pilates in numerous Pilates studios, physical therapy practices and fitness clubs in the US. Junghee was chosen to work with the elite performers on the Broadway production of Cirque du Soleil – Paramour until the show closed. Also, The NY Pilates Studio®Teacher Training Program requested Junghee to be a Teacher of Teachers. Students from Seoul Korea, Scotland United Kingdom, Merida Mexico and New York City benefited greatly from her skills and guidance until 2017.
Since 2012, Junghee has also been providing popular expert classes and lectures for “Pilatesology”which provides classical Pilates online video content in both Korean and English. She also has provided content for “Pilates Anytime”with many different topics for Pilates teachers and practitioners.
Junghee is recognized as a world leading classical Pilates expert and is often traveling around the world delivering workshops as leading presenter at conferences
In this course, you will work out and do spotting on the Reformer. Each Reformer will be on two persons as a team. One person will work out with the classical Reformer routine and the other person will be spotting for guiding and helping on Flow and Transition as Junghee learned by Romana Kryzanowska. Then switch the roles. After that, we will have the question-and-answer time. Be prepared as workout outfit and questions. Depending on the number of Reformers and participants, some participants will be remained as the observer because of the length of time.
In this course, you will perform the classical Pilates MAT technique with Magic Circle and some Standing Exercise with Magic Circle. This is more challenge and fun for the advanced level. Performing the exercise in Pilates with Flow and Precision requires a lot of training. Often you lose this element in your workout and teaching. Romana always used to emphasize ‘Pilates is an exercise.’and Joe mentioned in his book Return to Life Though Contrology, Contrology works with Flow and Precision. We will focus on these elements with Magic Circle. Bring your own MAT and Magic Circle.
In this course, you will learn how to add the Wunda Chair exercises in the system of classical Pilates. As Individual Needs, you can select some exercises to improve the body parts in particular reasons. Each exercises have the purpose. We will review on that. Also, Wunda Chair could be more challenge workout for advanced level. It could be a whole workout for a session for only advanced level people.
Cadillac exercises can be used as Individual Needs in Classical Pilates System. We will review the purpose of the exercises and perform some variations. This course will be included cueing, hands on and spotting as a teaching tool as well.
