Pilates is all about moving efficiently. What makes Pilates so important with respect to posture is that Pilates trains us to develop and use core strength, rather than holding our position with superficial musculature.
Using the deep core muscles of the powerhouse - the abdominals, back, and pelvic floor - to support our posture allows the shoulders to relax, the neck and head to move freely, and relieves stress on the hips, legs, and feet.
Most of us know good posture when we see it, and we are inspired by how free and strong it makes a person look, but there are so many reasons to attend to one’s posture I think it is worthwhile to take a moment to get really motivated.
Target:
Benefits of Better Posture
•Pain relief - especially back, neck and hip pain
•Increased flexibility
•Increased movement efficiency and economy
•Increased range of motion and muscle function
•Less stress to muscles, soft tissue, bone and joints
•Possible improved circulation
•Pleasing visual appearance, stationary and in movement
This BASI Pilatesworkshop will focus on one of the fundamentals of all teaching skills “Cueing”. It is in fact, this basic ingredient that sets the stage for all communication between the teacher and the student. Communication demands great skill as information must be conveyed, received and integrated within milliseconds to bring about a desired result. Good cueing should be the basis of any skilled teaching session and will directly relate to the methodology of the Pilates method as a whole.
The unique skills required in teaching this mind-body process will be addressed and discussed in this workshop. From the onset, it is important to stress that cueing can be learned and improved upon but the key component is experience. This experience must be both in practice of the method as well as in teaching of the method. It is a process that takes time, for just as a client cannot learn an exercise with all nuances in one session, so the teacher cannot learn all the cues in one session, it takes time, experience, experimentation and understanding – it is a never ending journey.
The Pilates Method offers a unique and invaluable mode of training for athletes. Many athletes have long searched for such a program. Yet the benefits do not necessarily fit into typical physiological categories, as one would expect. In fact, at times the athletes themselves are not sure why it is working, and neither are we as teachers….. but it is. Athletes are a special population and as such special considerations need to be taken into account. Following are some of those considerations:
• The type of activity; symmetrical/asymmetrical, aerobic/anaerobic, ballistic, high impact
• Male or female
• Frequency of training sessions
• Intensity of training sessions
• Repetitiveness of movement patters
Target:
As one can see, many extrinsic and intrinsic factors need to be considered, injuries, build, genetics as well as mental make-up. This interactive workshop will deal with structuring sessions according to the BASI Pilates® approach and principles, in an effort to reach the ultimate goal………..performance!
This workshop is for learning fun, new moves and techniques on the Pilates apparatus to enhance balance and the bodies place in space.Tap into the bodies alignment and understanding of balance.
Is Pilates for men and can a man achieve the desired results from a Pilates session he needs? Of course! Why wouldn't it be? Pilates was started by a man (Joseph Pilates) for men. Though men have always been part of the Pilates scene, the surge of popularity that Pilates has enjoyed in recent years has been powered to a large extent by a wave of women participants and instructors, leaving some with the impression that the Pilates method is more for women. This is an unfortunate side-effect of an otherwise positive development. Fortunately, it is quickly dissolving. Pilates is one of the fastest growing fitness trends in the world, and men are definitely taking advantage of Pilates many benefits.
